I was a bit shocked at our first training session – these girls are super stars!! They have loads of skill and enthusiasm for their netball and most important are all so lovely! Our first didn’t game didn’t disappoint – we had a really tough match first up against Souths. They had played together for ever and our team was still getting used to each other. It showed in the first quarter with a bit of a slow start. Going forward there were so many moments of great netball and 3rd quarter we were really close only going down by 1. Watch out South’s come Round 2!! Congs to Georgia for our Player of the Week she showed some lovely circle defence (even out of position) and really stepped up in Shannon and Maddie’s absence. Can’t wait for this week!

I’m not sure I will last till the end of the season at this rate….it was a nail biter (and I think I half lost my voice from so much cheering)!! A draw with Terrigal Wamberal. The girls played so well again! We were even most of the 1st half and then the girls put their foot down and got in front. We were up 1, up 2, up 1, even again…..it went back and forth all the way till the end with everyone showing such determination to stay out in front. Terrigal was a very physical team and we did so well to stay strong (especially Niamh & Carly) and keep our positions around the circle. Shannon made a real impact in the centre with some great intercepts and a big congratulations to Kayla as our Player of the week – her circle defence improved out of sight from last week but I was most impressed with her rebounding!! Both her and Georgia great positioning!! Zoe and Molly worked really hard in attack and this week and we could see they were getting used to each other. Remy helped with some really good feeding.

It was hard playing on a wet day against a fast OLSS team. We played until half time and the score was taken then. We had a slow start and it was a little bit hard to come back from that with only 2 quarters to play. Our shooters are starting to really gel and work nicely together and were working hard to keep us in the game. Their GA was really strong and we had a bit of trouble trying to contain their attacks…but remember girls a lot of these teams have been playing together for a lot of years.
Round one we are working things out with our new players and are getting better and better each game.
A really good hard effort.

The girls had a great game and really deserved the win!! Our attack smashed their opposition.
Kayla and Molly proved to be great option in the circle. Kayla kept working on her holding
and with Molly’s movement it really came together in the 2nd half of the game. We were even
at half time as we made some silly mistakes and let them back in the game. 3rd & 4th quarter
though we never looked back and to be 23 up in ½ a game of netball shows how hard the girls
all worked. Molly T – thanks for filling in – some really great intercepts we definitely couldn’t have
done it without you. Shannon was this week’s player of the week as GD she was everywhere
and showed me how great her speed and timing was to cleanly intercept so many balls.
Shan really reads the game well.

A really close first half …I think we were down by 3 at half time. The girls battled the wind and
cold weather but still a few of our passes went a little bit astray. It was good to have Zoe back from
her tonsillitis. Kayla was happy to be back at defence – don’t get too cosy down that end….we will
need you back soon! Niamh worked really hard for Player of the week in at centre for the
whole game. Her front cuts really opened up our attack and gave a great open option to pass to.
12year Rep’s next week….look out Carly you’ll be playing against your team!!

WON 36 - 21
Nice game girls. We really had something to prove this week and went out hard in defence. It was a really hot day and we didn’t do ourselves too many favours by getting the intercept but then turning the ball over. We outplayed the reps in skill but needed to settle the game down in our attack to consolidate on our turnovers. Our shooting improved this game I thought even with a super tall GD with a great lean. Congrats Zoe on Player of the Week - your BF should be super impressed! J Keep up the good work for next week!!

LOSS 36 - 26
A really physical game that the girls came up against this week. I think we walked away with some aches and bruises but should be really proud of ourselves for keeping in there right until the end. The game was closer than the final scored showed. Everyone worked really hard. Shooters worked hard on the their shots with another week against huge defences with really good leans. We had a short 3 feet in the circle which wasn’t to our advantage. Molly really did well against her defence this week and scored Player of the Week. We had a few tough match ups with Carly, Niamh and Shannon coping of little bit of aggression from their opposition. Overall we really played strong against their physical style of play and I’m really proud of your girls for working so hard.

We had an awesome game on the weekend. Through the first round we have had some moments/quarters where we have reached and played to our potential but this game goes to show that we can really go out there in the 2nd round and blow these teams away. We won 55-17 against OLSS. We need to keep up this confidence in attack and determination in defence and watch out Terrigal next week……we are going to smoke em’!!! Shooting stats this week were great!! Keep practicing girls!! We are on our semi-final chase!!!

It was a pleasure to coach these girls each week. They have a lovely attitude and although the results at the end of the season didn’t put us in the semis it wasn’t a good reflection of most of the games. We drew games and lost a lot by only 1 or 2 points and drew or beat the team that was coming first. As one of the shortest teams in our grade we did really well and by working on a few key areas for next year the girls should do really well.
