Each week we will be bringing you different drills that you may wish to use in your training sessions. If there is anything specific you would like to see i.e. shooting drills, footwork etc, please email us and we will endeavour to put it on the website for you. Shadowing - 1


Description:

-2 players
-Starting Position - Defender starts in front of Attacker,
half way across Attacker, well balanced
-'D' starts in front of Á' in starting position
-Á' moves from side to side about 3-4 m
-'D' tries to stay in starting position
-Work for 1 min - rest
-Work both sides

Coaching Points:

-D to keep A on one side with head facing same way as long as possbile
-D to maintain vision on A
-D to move feet before head

Shadowing - 2

Description

Equip: Colour cards

-3 Players
-Player 1 shuffles through coloured cards
-'D' in starting position
-Á' moves side to side
-'D' uses peripheral vision to stay with Á'
and call the card colour
-Work for 1 min - rest
-Work both sides

Coaching Points

'D' to keep Á' on one side with head facing same way for as long as possible
'D' to maintain vision on both card and Á'
'D' move feet before head - small fast feet



Shadowing - 3  


Description


Equip: ball

-'D'and Á' start as per drills 1 & 2
-Player 1 to pass ball (straight passes to start) to Á' into the space
-Ball to passed within 3 seconds
-'D' to maintain front defence

Extension:

-Á' can move elsewhere other than side to side
-Player 1 can vary passes i.e. lob, bounce

Coaching Points:

-'D' move feet before head - small, fast feet
-Player 1 good accurate passing






Peripheral Vision


Description



Equip: 4 Players, 2 balls, coloured cards, dot                                             

*    Players set up as shown
*    Player 3 (W) stands on dot 1/2 way in circle
*    1 & 2 position and in turn pass the ball to W,
     who returns it without looking at T.
*    Player 4 is shuffling through coloured cards for W to call
*    When 1 has rec'd ball take step around outside of circle.
     2 then passes and receives ball back.
*     1 & 2 pass &receive in turn moving around circle after each pass.
*    Continue until W can no longer see the ball coming at her.
*    Swap

Coaching Points

  *   Make sure W stays focussed looking straight ahead
  *  Chin up
  *   Hands out to meet ball


Space Awareness


Description

Equip: 1 ball, chalk, 4 players

*    Draw centre 1/3 as shown                                                          
*    Player 1 starts with ball and passes off to
     player driving to empty space
*   Other players to move to another space
    with ball being passed to player with clear lead
Key: Bold arrow 1st phase lead,
Spaced arrow ball path,
Light arrows 2nd phase leads

Coaching Points

  *    Timing
  *   Vision open
  *   Strong leads
  *   Accurate passing



Interception - Activity

DESCRIPTION
Red 2 has the ball and red 1 starts in the opposite
corner
Blue 1 runs forward and Red 2 passes a diagonal pass
to Blue 1
Red 1 moves on a diagonal to intercept the pass
Following the interception red 1 feeds a straight pass
onto Blue 2
Red 2 then runs straight to receive a diagonal pass from
Blue 2 and Blue 1 moves across to intercept this pass.

COACHING POINTS
Once the worker has released the ball, she focuses solely on the ball in order to make the
interception.



Intercepting - Angles

DESCRIPTION

Players 2 and 3 stand just in front of a line. White 1 stands
in the middle but just behind the line, and is ready to move,
on her toes. The feeder feeds the ball to one of the posts
and the worker must move forward to intercept the pass
before returning to her start position.

COACHING POINTS
The worker must drive forward to take the ball in front of
the post and at an angle make sure the defender is prepared before the next
pass is made



King Ball

DESCRIPTION

Each team has a King (player)standing on their bench. The
aim is to get all players (Kings) onto their bench. To
become a King, the players on the same team must
successfully pass the ball between themselves to their
existing Kings, abiding by the rules of netball, and the king
must catch the ball without falling off !

COACHING POINTS

Some players may choose to defend the other teams
king(s) etc.
Dodge to receive and get the ball closer to the bench.
